Fraiman on the relationship of Elizabeth and Mr. Bennett

In Fraiman's piece she addresses the relationship between Mr. Bennett and Elizabeth.  It is clear from the start of the novel that Mr. Bennett and Elizabeth had a closer bond than the other siblings.  It could be that Elizabeth resembles her father in many aspects or that she is the youngest.  I do not however think it is pity that Mr. Bennett is particularly closer to Elizabeth.   The marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth brings an end to the father daughter chapter in Lizzy's life.  Thus far Mr. Bennett has been the one consistent male figure in her life.  However. now he gives Elizabeth to Darcy as a "gift" as we said in class.  This tradition still carries to society today.   Although women do not have to marry for there own well-being today, it is still a practicality in society.  I found the marriage brought a new relationship to Darcy, Mr. Bennett, and Elizabeth.  Mr. Bennett is now looked to only as a father figure, not everyday issues.  Darcy now carries the more active male role.  Did anyone else find this marriage blossoming new gender roles, possibly more appropriate male roles in Elizabeth's life?
